Riverland and Austin Human Rights Commission Present Voices of Austin

Release Date: September 2, 2025

Riverland Community College, in partnership with the Austin Human Rights Commission, will host Voices of Austin on Tuesday, September 16 at 12 p.m. in the Riverland Community College, Austin East Building in the Library.

The event, held as part of Austin Welcome Week, will celebrate the voices that shape the city. A complimentary lunch will be provided to all attendees.

The program will feature six community members, each sharing a five-to-seven-minute short story reflecting their personal journey in Austin. The stories highlight transformation, resilience, and the richness of a community strengthened by immigrant experiences and diverse cultural perspectives.

“Austin’s strength has always come from its people and their stories, said Rachel Erkkila, Riverland Vice President of Strategic Enrollment and Equity. Voices of Austin gives us the opportunity to honor the resilience, creativity, and diversity that make this community such a vibrant place to live and learn. At Riverland, we are proud to help create spaces where every voice is heard and valued,”

Events like Voices of Austin showcase the dynamic role Austin’s vibrant population plays in defining the spirit of the city. They also reflect Riverland’s deep commitment to fostering inclusive opportunities and strengthening connections across the region.
