Release Date: October 29, 2025

Riverland Theatre is celebrating the first weekend of opening its 2025-2026 season with Sleepy Hollow the Musical. This rethinking of Washington Irving’s classic short story of the Headless Horseman questions who the villain may be. Join us over Halloween weekend as the intriguing plot twists transform this familiar legend into a powerful theatrical experience. Book and Lyrics by Jim Christian. Music by Tom Edward Clark. The director suggests the content is for those 13 years old or older.

“This is an interesting twist on the tale of the Headless Horseman, raising the stakes for the small, tight-knit Dutch immigrant community to solve the 10-year-long curse,” said Hansen. “They have suffered loss, yet the poltergeists of the village are lost loved ones who continue to make their presence felt. What is the answer to the riddle? Is it an extremist belief in a cure for all ‘evil?’ Or the love nurtured in a community willing to sacrifice?”

Sleepy Hollow the Musical will be performed Oct. 29, 30, 31, and Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Frank W. Bridges Theatre on Riverland’s Austin Campus.
