Pre-Social Work Transfer Pathway

Start your path to a career in social work

The Pre-Social Work Transfer Pathway A.S. degree is for students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree in Social Work at a Minnesota State university. This program lets you complete your first two years of college with credits that transfer directly into a Social Work major. You will enter the university with junior-year status.

You’ll take courses that build a strong foundation in the helping professions. The program includes electives in human services and hands-on experience in a social service setting. If you want to support children, families, individuals, or communities, this is a strong first step.

What you’ll learn:

• The core values and history of social work
• How diversity shapes human experience
• Ethical issues in social work and mental health
• How people and their environments affect each other
• Basic skills for analyzing data and populations
• How social welfare systems work across the world
• Over 165 hours of supervised field experience in a social service setting

Where it leads:

This degree prepares you to transfer into a bachelor’s program in Social Work at one of the seven Minnesota State universities. You’ll be ready to continue your education and move toward a career in social work.
