Minimum Computer Requirements
To support online learning at Riverland, students should have access to a computer that meets the following minimum requirements:
- Computer: Windows or Mac laptop or desktop
- Operating System: Windows 10 or macOS 10.15 or newer
- Processor: Intel Core i5 or AMD equivalent
- Memory: 8 GB or more
- Storage: 256 GB SSD or larger
- Wi-Fi: Wireless network capability
- Collaboration Tools: Webcam, microphone, and speakers or headphones
- Browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge
Note: Some programs may require higher specifications. Check with your instructor for details.

Chromebook Limitations
Chromebooks are not recommended for online learning due to compatibility issues.
If you choose to use a Chromebook, you may experience limitations and need alternative solutions. Some tools, such as Respondus LockDown Browser, may not function properly.
Alternative option:
- Use a campus computer lab to complete coursework or exams
Using Smartphones and Tablets
Smartphones and tablets are not recommended as your primary learning device. Many assignments and course activities may not function correctly on these devices.

Many manufacturers offer student discounts on computers and software. Be sure to ask about academic pricing when making a purchase.

Free Microsoft 365 for Students
As a Riverland student, you can download Microsoft 365 at no cost. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools. You do not need to purchase these programs separately.
