Dr. Donna R. Schumacher

Dr. Donna R. Schumacher has built a long and impactful career in nursing, education, and healthcare leadership.

She has served in a wide range of clinical roles, including staff nurse and assistant nurse manager in pediatric, intensive care, coronary care, and medical-surgical units. She has also spent more than 15 years teaching nursing students at the vocational, associate, bachelor’s, and graduate levels.

From 1988 to 2000, Dr. Schumacher taught in the associate degree nursing program at Austin Community College. She later served as Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences from 2000 to 2002, leading curriculum improvements that strengthened the program.

Since 2002, she has held several leadership roles at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She began as a Nursing Education Specialist for hematology, oncology, and transplant units. She later served as Nursing Education Liaison and Director of Affiliated Nursing Programs.

Today, she coordinates the Mayo Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, supporting hands-on training for healthcare professionals.

Dr. Schumacher has mentored hundreds of nurses, developed and presented more than 200 health-related courses, and published numerous articles. She also serves as a reviewer for nursing simulation publications.
