PSEO Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders to participate in PSEO at Riverland.
10th Grade (Sophomores)
- Meet or exceed the 8th grade Reading MCA with a score of 850 or higher.
- If you do not qualify with your MCA score, participation begins in 11th grade.
- If the student did not take the 8th grade Reading MCA, the student must take Accuplacer Reading prior to acceptance. Students only have one attempt. Qualifies with a reading score of 250 or higher.
- Schedule an Accuplacer exam
- Accuplacer reading scores are accepted only if a student has not taken the MCA. Accuplacer does not replace a non-qualifying MCA score.
- If eligible, a student may enroll in one Career Technical Education (CTE) course during the first term.
- If the student earns a grade of C or better in that CTE course during the first term, the student may take additional postsecondary courses, including general education courses.
11th Grade (Juniors)
Meet at least one of the following:
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Qualifying assessment score:
- 10th grade Reading MCA: 1042 or higher
- Accuplacer Reading: 242
- ACT Reading: 16
- SAT Reading: 410
- Rank in the upper third of the graduating class
Students who do not meet the above may submit a letter of recommendation from a high school counselor outlining readiness for college-level coursework. Students must still meet any course prerequisites or placement standards. Recommendations are reviewed by the Academic Dean and Director of Admissions.
12th Grade (Seniors)
Meet at least one of the following:
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Qualifying assessment score:
- 10th grade Reading MCA: 1030 or higher
- Accuplacer Reading: 230 or higher
- ACT Reading: 14
- SAT Reading: 380
- Rank in the upper half of the graduating class
Students who do not meet the above may submit a letter of recommendation from a high school counselor outlining readiness for college-level coursework. Students must still meet any course prerequisites or placement standards. Recommendations are reviewed by the Academic Dean and Director of Admissions.
