What Are Electric Vehicles and Hybrids?

Electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid vehicles use electric motors powered by batteries. Hybrid vehicles combine electric motors with traditional gasoline engines to improve efficiency and reduce fuel use.

These vehicles rely on high-voltage battery systems, electric drivetrains, and regenerative braking systems rather than traditional fuel-only engines. Sensors, power electronics, and software manage energy flow and vehicle performance.

Important components include battery management systems, inverters, and thermal controls. These systems monitor battery health, manage charging, and prevent overheating.

Electric and hybrid vehicles continue to evolve and are used in many environments, from city driving to long-distance travel. They can also connect with charging networks and smart energy systems to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

As this technology grows, skilled technicians are needed to service and maintain these vehicles.

Benefits of This Certificate

  • More Job Opportunities: As electric and hybrid vehicles become more common, employers are looking for technicians who understand high-voltage systems.
  • Higher Earning Potential: Specialized training in electric vehicle technology can make you more competitive and may lead to higher wages.
  • Career Advancement: This certificate can help technicians move into roles such as lead technician, service manager, or other leadership positions.
