3.34 Academic Semester Start Dates

Purpose

This policy establishes the same official start date for fall and spring academic semesters for Riverland Community College as all colleges and universities in the system.

Applicability

Establishing the same academic semester start date provides students and the general public reliable information on a single system-wide start date for each academic semester, supports inter-institution student enrollment, and increases public awareness that all colleges and universities are part of a single system. The official system academic semester start dates apply to the official beginning date for classes and do not apply to the first day of the faculty work year established by Riverland. Faculty Shared Governance President and the Chief Academic Officer collaborate on a draft of each academic year’s calendar. The draft is then examined by all faculty, finalized, and approved.
