Nail Technician Course List

This course is intended for nail technician students. This course will meet preclinical requirements for licensure. Students will focus on the topics of chemistry, electricity, professional image, anatomy, infection control and Minnesota statutes and rules.

• (3 Cr – 1 lect, 2 lab)

This course emphasizes the care of the hands, nails, and feet. Nail shapes and the use of manicure and pedicure equipment and supplies, as well as basic manicure and pedicure procedures are introduced. Students apply artificial nails and conduct nail repair. Instruction and clinical practice are provided in sculpturing techniques, nail tip application, overlays, and nail fills.

• (3 Cr – l lect, 2 lab)

This practical application course includes specific client services. Under instructor supervision, students provide services including manicures, pedicures and artificial nail enhancements to mannequins, classmates, and clients. Salon safety, sanitation and infection control are stressed. Students experience salon reception and dispensary service work. Satisfactorily completed quotas accumulate to meet quota requirements.

• (5 Cr – 0 lecture, 5 lab)

This course prepares students to take the general theory, state and written practical exams that are required for licensure. Review topics include safety and infection control, client consultation, nail physiology and anatomy, nail diseases and disorders, manicures, pedicures, artificial nail enhancements and Minnesota statutes and rules

• (1 Cr – 0 lect, 1 lab)

This course provides the students with the opportunity to pass the practical skills testing necessary for nail technician licensure in Minnesota.
