I can positively say ESLA Program has made me a better person. This program helped me develop a positive attitude towards English language and discover more about myself. My instructor of ESLA Program and advisors were very caring and interested in my well-being. The ESLA classes were always motivational and I realized in the environment how much the students were excited to be there. I have gained confidence in myself and today I am member of some organizations at the College such as, Ambassador and Agriculture Club. I have always felt that I was so lucky to be a student at Riverland Community College.

I am doing my Associate in Arts degree right now at Riverland Community College and I am planning to move to Winona State University to finish my Bachelor’s degree. I came to United States three years ago and I registered for ESLA classes. That was the best decision I have ever made in my life! The instructor Jen was so nice and caring. She taught us in a very smooth way. Because of ESLA classes I am getting an A in my Composition II class. I really enjoy how we did group work and learn new things. I loved to connect with people from different countries and get to know the specialty from their native country. One situation that I clearly remember was when I made silly mistakes on my paper and instead of my instructor cut the points, she went through it with me and taught me the ways I could improve my writing. Now I am involved in some Riverland Organizations such as Student Senate, Trio-SSS, and PTK. I am really enjoying being in those programs helping students to succeed in College.

My major is Medical Assistant. This semester I am taking Composition I, Math and other online classes. The ESLA program helped me become what I am today. I feel confident and comfortable to talk in English with other people. I really liked coming to ESLA classes because I enjoyed reading English texts, learning new vocabulary, and how to use it. My advisor is the best! He help me a lot and wants me to be well prepared and succeeded. I am involved in TRIO – SSS at Riverland Community College.

I love supporting students to learn and grow as they pursue their dreams. To do this, I draw on a 15-year background in ESL, teacher mentoring, and adult development. My ESLA courses are challenging but rewarding, with a strong focus on academic English, critical thinking and student growth. My ESLA students (and I!) enjoy learning from the diverse cultures and perspectives in our learning communities.
