English as a Second Language (ESLA)

Riverland's English for Academic Purposes courses are designed for international and immigrant students who want to improve their English skills for college and career. Classes prepare students for success in the Minnesota transfer curriculum and college technical programs, and develop advanced English skills useful in professional settings.


You can look forward to a friendly, welcoming classroom atmosphere, and experienced instructors committed to your goals, growth and success. Students enjoy a cohort atmosphere with small classes, group activities, and learning outside the classroom through field trips.


You will develop Academic English skills in writing, grammar, reading, vocabulary, listening, and speaking. In addition, you will apply and develop critical thinking skills and learn to navigate U.S. college systems.
