Whether you are looking to become a certified commercial vehicle inspector, learn to ride a moped, or earn your motorcycle license endorsement, our courses are designed to provide comprehensive training and certification renewals. Our programs are structured to ensure safety and compliance with Minnesota laws, offering everything from basic and intermediate riding courses to specialized training for automatic transmission and hazardous materials handling. Minnesota State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspection

Certification Renewal

  • Eligibility: All certified Minnesota Commercial Vehicle Inspectors must renew their certification every two years.
  • Expiration: If your certification has expired for more than six months, you are ineligible to attend the recertification class or perform inspections.

Moped Training

Certification Renewal

  • Eligibility: All certified Minnesota Commercial Vehicle Inspectors must renew their certification every two years.
  • Expiration: If your certification has been expired for more than six months, you are ineligible to attend the recertification class or perform inspections.

Basic Rider Course

Overview: Learn how to ride a motorcycle and earn your motorcycle license endorsement in this 16.5-hour course, which includes:

  • On-Cycle Training: 11.5 hours
  • Online Training: 5 hours

Instructors: Supportive and friendly instructors will teach you the basic skills needed to safely ride on the street.

Requirements:

  • Motorcycles: Training motorcycles provided for riders of all sizes.
  • Age: Riders under age 18 must pass this approved course as per Minnesota law.
  • Experience: No previous motorcycle riding experience is required, but it is beneficial.
  • Licensing: Students must possess a valid driver's license or motor vehicle instruction permit.
  • Gear: Students must provide their own protective clothing and DOT-approved helmet.
  • Attendance: 100% attendance is mandatory.

Intermediate Rider Course

Transportation Programs

Training Offered:

  • Automatic Transmission: Classes for both Class A and Class B licenses.
  • Bus Training: Comprehensive training for Passenger Buses and School Buses.
  • Hazardous Materials: Specialized Endorsement course focusing on hazardous materials.

Peggy Young

Peggy Young has been with Riverland Community College since 1991 and joined the Riverland Customized Training and Education team in 2008.  Her focus is on Industrial Safety, Manufacturing, Leadership, Trade & Industry, and providing Strengths-based training as a StrengthsQuest Educator. Peggy is also the Department of Labor – MnAMP grant manager and MJSP grant coordinator for Riverland Community College.  Peggy works with individuals and business clients to provide solutions through customized training with a focus on curriculum enhancement and extended learning initiatives.
