Nursing Assistant NA Registry Test

Testing Information

We are an approved test site for the Minnesota State Registry Test, and this competency exam for Nursing Assistants (NA) meets state and federal OBRA requirements.

Check for Upcoming Testing Dates

Important: There are two parts of the MN State Registry Test for Nursing Assistants: the on-campus Knowledge Test and the on-campus Skills Test. You must register for and pass both parts to be certified and listed on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.

Download the new Minnesota candidate handbook to learn more, and review the test events listed below for full descriptions and details.

Registering for a Test

Challenge/Test-Out Candidates

If you have not completed a Minnesota state-approved NA training program within the last 2 years, you may still test as a Challenge candidate. When registering, enter “Challenge” when asked for your candidate status.

What to Expect After Registration

  • Once you register and pay, your seat in that test event is secured.
  • About 1 week before your test date:
    • You will be scheduled in the TMU testing platform.
    • If you are a Challenge candidate, you will be added to the TMU platform.
    • You will receive an email with important testing details, including your Skills Test time slot. Be sure to check your junk or spam folder.

Testing FAQ

  • You do not need to take the Knowledge and Skills tests on the same day.
  • You do need to come to campus for both tests. You will receive an email with your location and arrival details.
  • You must pass both the Skills Test and the Knowledge Test to be certified and placed on the registry.
  • If you fail a test, you must register for a new test date and pay again.

Preparing for the Test

Cancellations and Transfer Policy

  • You must cancel or transfer by calling 507-433-0573 at least 3 business days before the exam date.
  • No refunds are provided after that deadline.
  • A $15 fee applies each time you cancel or transfer, regardless of reason or date.
  • Do not remove yourself from the test event in TMU. You must call to cancel and request a refund, if applicable.
  • If you are late or do not bring the required ID, you will not be allowed to test and will be counted as a no-show.
  • No-shows forfeit testing fees and must pay again to re-register.

No-Show Exception: If you test positive for a contagious illness or become injured right before the test, you may be eligible for a partial or full refund.

This does not guarantee a refund, but it may reduce your re-registration fee or provide a partial refund.
