Riverland’s Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution Recognition

Riverland Community College is honored to be recognized by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) as an Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). This designation reflects the college’s growing Hispanic student population and its commitment to supporting student access, success, and opportunity.

Hispanic students currently make up 15.8% of Riverland’s enrollment, demonstrating the college’s ongoing efforts to serve and support the Hispanic community.

What Is a Hispanic-Serving Institution?

A Hispanic-Serving Institution is defined as a college or university where 25% or more of undergraduate enrollment is Hispanic. This designation reflects an institution’s commitment to meeting the educational needs and aspirations of Hispanic students.

As an Emerging HSI, Riverland is on a path toward reaching and surpassing this threshold, supported by continued growth in its service region.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), established in 1986, advocates for Hispanic student success in higher education. HACU represents more than 500 colleges and universities across the United States, Latin America, and Spain.

The organization emphasizes the important role HSIs play in providing accessible, high-quality education and expanding opportunities for Hispanic students.

A Milestone for Riverland and Minnesota

Riverland Community College was the only institution in Minnesota named an Emerging HSI in the recent HACU report. This recognition highlights Riverland’s leadership in expanding access and opportunity for Hispanic students across the region.

As the college continues to grow, Riverland remains committed to strengthening programs and services that support student success. Riverland is also a proud Associate Member Institution (AMI) of HACU.
