Grading

How do I request to have a Pass (P) grade or No Credit (NC) grade in Spring 2020 instead of a letter (A,B,C,D,F) grade?

  • Please complete this Grade Method Change eform to request a Pass (P) or No Credit (NC) grade in Spring 2020 instead of a letter (A,B,C,D,F) grade this semester.
  • Please note, there may be situations where a letter grade is more beneficial than a P or NC grade (i.e. veteran’s benefits, athletic eligibility/GPA calculation, transferability to universities outside of MinnState, etc.) Due to this, you are strongly encouraged to meet with your Academic Advisor prior to requesting the P or NC grade.

What if I later decide I wanted the letter (A,B,C,D,F) grade in Spring 2020 instead of a Pass (P) grade or No Credit (NC) grade?

I see that my Failed to Withdraw (FW) grade in Spring 2020 changed to a Withdraw (W) grade. What does this mean?

  • Courses that were assigned a Withdraw (W) or Incomplete (I) grade after March 12th will be excluded from the calculation of percent completion which affects their Satisfactory Academic Progress. However, Failed to Withdraw (FW) grades do get calculated. Therefore, it is in the student’s best interest to earn a Withdraw (W) grade instead. We are making this exception for Spring 2020 semester classes, due to COVID19.
  • For more information around Withdraw or Failed to Withdraw grades, please see our Grading Policy or contact your Academic Advisor.

I may need more time to complete my Spring 2020 assignments. Is this an option?

  • Students may request an Incomplete (I) grade from their faculty and this request should be honored for Spring 2020 semester, due to COVID19.
  • Requests for Incomplete (I) grades must be made and agreed upon prior to the last day of the class.(is this correct?)
  • All incomplete work must be completed as agreed upon by the student and faculty member, on or before the last day of fall semester, December 18, 2020.
  • Please see our Grading Policy for more information on Incomplete (I) grades.

I had a Failed to Withdraw (FW) grade posted in my Spring 2020 class after March 12, 2020. Can this be changed to a Withdraw (W) grade instead?

  • Yes. We will be notifying students who currently have (FW) grades between March 12, 2020 – now, and will convert their grades to (W) grades.
  • For more information around Withdraw or Failed to Withdraw grades, please see our Grading Policy or contact your Academic Advisor.
