Think Theatre - Think Riverland
After a successful and very busy fall semester including 2 season productions, a dance concert, a return visit by the Glamazons and an alumni fundraiser, The Last Five Years, Riverland Theatre is ready to move on to the spring semester productions.
On stage spring semester is the classic Antigone. One of the most famous and popular stories in literary history, this version by Jean Anouilh transforms the setting from ancient Greece to modern times. The play’s parallels to the 21st century are exciting and provocative. When confronted with extraordinary circumstances, what choices would we make? Do we follow God’s laws or do we avoid punishment and follow man’s laws? What makes right and wrong? Right out of the evening news, Antigone at once challenges and entertains.
The season ends with the timeless musical Pippin. Once upon a time, the young prince Pippin longed to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. After disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great, he sought it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power. In the end he found it in the simple pleasures of home and family.
This hip, tongue-in-cheek, anachronistic fairy tale has captivated audiences and continues to appeal to the young at heart everywhere. The energetic pop-influenced Stephen Schwartz score includes “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky” as well as many other heartwarming ballads.
Tickets are available two weeks before performances at the Riverland campus bookstores, the Frank W. Bridges Theatre box office, and at the Coffee House on Main in downtown Austin.
