Elected Offices

How Officials are elected: Open nominees and written ballots. Majority vote will indicate the winner. Members may run for more than one office, but may only actually hold one position. The term for the offices below shall be for one academic year, normally beginning in September 1 and ending August 31. Elections for the upcoming year may be held either at the end of the spring semester, or at the beginning of the new academic year (August or September). In either case, the terms begin September 1 and run one year, ending on August 31.

President: This officer shall be in charge of organizing the meetings, including what topics will be discussed and ideas to be talked about. This member will start and finish the meetings. He/She will also be responsible for contacting others in the community when needed.

Vice President: This officer shall be responsible for scheduling times and dates for meetings, assisting the President with any added help needed, taking down any ideas from the group or topics wanting to be discussed at the next meeting, keeping track of the minutes, and assuming leadership at meetings when the President is not available.

Governor: This officer shall be responsible for computing the costs of events or activities that the group would like to do. He/she will also be in charge of fund raising activities. The Governor will also assist the President and Vice President in the planning and operation of meetings, projects, initiatives, community activities, etc. The Governor, with the assistance of the President, shall work with the Advisor in preparing and presenting budget requests to Student Affairs and/or the Student Senate of Riverland Community College.

Public Relations: This office shall be responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies to get more students involved with our group. Duties to include making posters for upcoming events and other advertising. This may possibly include developing and maintaining a website.

Liaison: Responsible for any issues or discrepancies among the group itself. This person is in charge of taking any complaints from group members and addressing them to get the problem resolved. Normally the Advisor will fill this role, unless otherwise decided by the group.

ADVISOR: The RCGSA Advisor shall be a non-elected position filled by a faculty or staff member of Riverland Community College, as determined by the Vice President of Student Affairs. The Advisor has final control over purchasing/budgeting issues and may run the meetings in absence of elected leadership. The Advisor shall serve as a liaison between the group and the college and community; shall advise the group in a manner consistent with the mission statement; and should serve as a resource to members of the RCGSA, the college, and surrounding communities.
