What doors are wide open for business degree graduates?
The answer is that many doors will be open to you. The business field is very flexible so you can follow your dreams and pursue a career that fits your personal strengths and interests. An AS degree provides students the opportunity to prepare for an immediate career in the expanding field of business. It establishes a solid business foundation and students have the option of transferring credits to another institution to complete a bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting.
This curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation for the study of business. Emphasis is placed on business technology along with classes in management, marketing, communications, international business, and financial skills. Riverland also offers several introductory courses to help students develop awareness about specific business areas that may appeal to them.
All full-time Riverland faculty members have a master's degree plus work experience. They maintain membership in professional business organizations to help them stay current in their field. Small class sizes, personal attention and the flexibility of day or online classes are more distinct advantages of this program. If you desire, this major can be taken totally online.
Further Education:
You will have a solid foundation to pursue further education to advance your career. Ask a Program Counselor about applying Business credits toward a bachelors degree or other advanced education. Additional educational opportunities are available through collaboration agreements that will enable you to transfer into a specific major as a junior. Our AS Degree graduates can take advantage of collaboration agreements with Southwest Minnesota State University in Business Administration, BS/BA degree program or the Business Education Teaching program at Winona State University. Be sure to discuss these opportunities with your Program Advisor or Counselor.
Please Note: There is an AA degree with Business emphasis which also requires 64 credits to graduate. It is designed specifically for liberal arts students who want to develop a strong business base as they work toward transferring to a four-year university program.
Employment Outlook
There is a tremendous need for people with strong business training and skills, and the demand is expected to continue far into the future. Riverland graduates are well prepared for entry-level management jobs in any type of business or corporation including international companies. Your Business degree can also lead to starting your own business. There is room for advancement by learning on the job with an established business or the start-up of a new company.
