Image Collections
The library provides access to a wide variety of images collection, some in unexpected places.
Full Image Databases:
Artstor: A digital library of more than one million images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and social sciences with a suite of software tools to view, present, and manage images. Artstor images come from a large, varied number of art museums and collections, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art and contributions from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. Artstor is easy to use and has several help options.
Camio: A digital library similar to Artstor but a much smaller collection. It has 9 collections that are not available in Artstor, including the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Camio is also easy to use but these search tips might be useful.
Databases with Limited Images:
Masterfile: One of the Ebsco databases that has a search option for images. It contains many multimedia images and primary source documents.
Encyclopedia Britannica: The online version has extended play and video clips. Each entry has associated media. The guided tour is helpful.
Discovery Collection: This database is primarily magazines and reference books but does have a limited amount of multimedia. The advanced search has a wide variety of document types that can be used to limit searches.
Discovery Tool for Finding Images on the Web:
OAIster: OIAster can be described as a discovery tool. It does not contain any content but using the search interface leads to collections on the web, some of which can be search and accessed individually. Learn more. |
