Java Script & Cookies in Internet Browsers
Troubleshooting Remote Access to Library ResourcesStudents access library databases remotely with the use of a student ID card. The card must be current and active. The card can be checked by logging into 'my account' in the online catalog.
If you have a current ID, and can successfully access your library record there may be other issues with your personal computer setup or a firewall. If you have been unsuccessful connecting to library resources, please review our troubleshooting suggestions below.
Check Browser Settings JavaScript and cookies must be enabled in your browser to access Library databases from off campus.
How to Enable Javascript
- Internet Explorer : Go to Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custom Level. Under Scripting, select Enable for all.
- Netscape 4.x : Go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced. Select Enable Javascript.
- Netscape 7.x : Go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced. Select Enable Javascript for Navigator.
- Firefox: Go to Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custome Level. Under Scripting, select Enable for all.
Use this button to see if you have cookies enabled.
Enabling Cookies For Internet Explorer 7
- Select Tools
- Select Internet Options
- Select the Privacy tab
- Using the slider on the right, set security to low or medium
- Click on apply
- Click OK to exit
Enabling Cookies For Internet Explorer 6.x
- Select Tools
- Select Internet Options
- Select the Privacy tab
- Select Advanced
- Deselect override automatic cookie handling button
- Click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen.
- Click OK to exit

After resetting your preferences, you must close your browser and restart it for the changes to take effect.
Enabling Cookies For Internet Explorer 5.x
- Go to Tools on the menu bar
- Pick Internet Options
- Click the Security tab
- Select the Custom Level tab
- Under 'Allow Cookies that are stored on your computer' click 'Enable'
- Under 'Allow per-session cookies (not stored)' click 'Enable'
- Select OK, Yes you want to save the settings

After resetting your preferences, you must close your browser and restart it for the changes to take effect.
Enabling Cookies for Netscape 7.x
Click Edit on the Toolbar.
Click Preferences
Click the Privacy and Security category; expand the list to show the subcategories.
Click Cookies
Three options are displayed. Click the appropriate choice:
- Disable cookies
- Enable cookies for the originating web site only
- Enable all cookies ý select this option.
- If you want to be notified when a web site tries to set a cookie, select 'Ask me before storing a cookie.'

After resetting your preferences, you must close your browser and restart it for the changes to take effect.
Enabling Cookies for Netscape 6.x
- Click Edit on the Toolbar.
- Click Preferences
- Click the Advanced category; expand the list to show the subcategories.
- Click Cookies
- Three options are displayed. Click the appropriate choice:
- Enable all cookies ý select this option.
- Enable cookies for the originating web site only
- Disable cookies
- If you want to be notified when a web site tries to set a cookie, select 'Warn me before storing a cookie.'
