Thank you very much for your interest in Riverland Community College. Riverland is a two year community college. We offer several two year degrees. Additionally we offer a two year liberal arts degree. This degree is comparable to the first two years you would earn at a four year university. Our two year liberal arts degree could transfer into most four year universities in the United States.

Some students attend a four year university when they graduate from high school. Others prefer to attend a community college for a year or two and then transfer to a four year university to finish their degree. The advantages to a two year college are numerous. It is much less expensive – we offer in-state tuition to our international students. Our cost per credit hour is about $152.00 per credit. Additionally, many international students require some English language training (ESL) prior to attending main stream college courses. We offer a full ESL center on our campus, once students feel accomplished in the English language they can continue with college courses right here at Riverland. Because we offer ESL on campus, students are not required to have completed the TOEFL before arriving. They simply test when they arrive and we determine if they need ESL instruction.
Also, many international students feel a little overwhelmed when they arrive in the United States. Riverland is a fairly small campus which has a student population of about four thousand students and about sixty international students. Because we are smaller we offer more one-on-one relationships with our students, our student to teacher ratio is smaller than universities and we have an international student advisor that works specifically with our international student population.
We offer housing on campus. This is an advantage to students just arriving in the U.S. Then they don’t have to search for an apartment as soon as they arrive on campus.
The requirements for admission are simple: 1. Fill out and submit an international application 2. Submit a copy of a high school diploma or transcript showing graduation 3. $20.00 application fee 4. Financial sponsorship form filled out, signed, and signatures notarized 5. An original bank statement in the amount of $14,700 from the financial sponsor that is current
Our application deadline for spring semester is November 15th and fall semester is July 1st.
