The Many Hats of Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin is a household name in American history.  As one of our founding fathers, he helped navigate the waters prior to the American Revolution and worked to set it on the right course after the Treaty of Paris.  But do you know everything there is to know about Dr. Franklin?  Presenter Dustin Heckman will work through the many hats worn by Franklin from youth up to his later years.  Heckman will share stories and anecdotes attributed to the legend of this amazing man.  The course will include an optional trip to the Minnesota Historical Society to view the traveling exhibit “Benjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World.”
 

About the speaker:
Dustin Heckman is the Executive Director of the Mower County Historical Society.  He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato in History.  Mr. Heckman’s research focus was on Colonial and Revolutionary American history.

Founding father, scientist, diplomat, humorist, philanthropist, entrepreneur, rebellious teen – Benjamin Franklin is one of the most remarkable and influential Americans of any generation. Learn more about the many sides of Ben Franklin and discover his impact on your world in this electrifying new exhibit.  This major exhibit features dozens of hands-on activities and rare artifacts related to the famed inventor and Founding Father.  Tuition includes bus fare, morning snacks and guided tour at MHS with plenty of time left for leisurely viewing of all exhibits.  Enjoy lunch on your own at the on-site Café Minnesota, featuring mouth-watering soups, specialty sandwiches and gourmet pizzas.
