Riverland baseball got back on the winning track Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep over Minnesota West at Seltz Field.
The Blue Devils won the opener 3-0 and then took the late game 17-5 in six innings to sweep the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, South Division twinbill.
Three runs in the fourth broke a scoreless deadlock in the first game. Jeff Huth and Winston Smith each hit two-out singles to drive in the runs for that rally. Derek Hahn was 2-for-3 and scored the first run in the opener.
Kyal Williams went seven innings on the mound. The native of Australia had five strikeouts, one walk, and scattered seven hits.
"We just seem to have trouble with their pitcher Deion Fultinger as we also struggled against him last season," Riverland coach Scott Koenigs said of the opener. "We had to battle to beat their No. 1 pitcher."
In the late game, the Blue Devils led 13-5 in the bottom of the sixth and grand slam home run from Brad Winkelman ended the day. Shawn Pape had two hits, and scored twice, Kyle Young had two doubles and three RBI.
Brian Voigt went 2-for-3 with a triple and inside-the-park homer. Renne Araujo, Reece Steckler, and Aaron Fisher each added two hits in the lopsided win. Tyler Jones was the winning pitcher in the late game.
Riverland (28-6, 7-3 MCAC South) goes on the road today for a doubleheader against Western Wisconsin Technical College.
