Hall of Fame announcement

Riverland Community College announces its Hall of Fame class of 2013  The six new inductees are:  Sheri (Bosshart) Keller (1979-81) women’s basketball, Matt Cano (1992-94) baseball, Suzy (Jahr) Hebrink (1985-86, 87-88) tennis,  Maurice Joel (1961-63) baseball, Jon Iverson (1972-74) tennis, and Larry Rensink (1958-60) in basketball.   This will be the ninth class inducted into the Hall of Fame and these six new inductees will join 52 other previously inducted members in the Riverland Community College Hall of Fame.  The induction will take place at noon on October 26, 2013 on the east campus in Austin, MN.  There will be more information at a later date regarding tickets and agenda for the induction.   For more information, contact David Lillemon, the men’s and women’s athletic director at :  david.lillemon@Riverland.edu  or 507-433-0543

Male and Female Athlete of the Year 2011-12

Robin Arjes is the proud recipient of the Female Athlete of the Year award at Riverland Community College for the 2011-12 campaign.  A sophomore from Austin, MN Robin was a three-sport athlete this past season.  In volleyball, she was second on the team with 42 blocks and also had 124 kills on the season.  The 6’0” forward in basketball averaged over 8 points/game and 5 rebounds.  She also led her team in steals with 42 thefts.  The left-handed hitting first baseman led her softball team in homeruns with (6), doubles (7) and RBI (16) while batting .304 for the season.

Matt Boswell has been named Male Athlete of the Year at Riverland Community College for the 2011-12 sports season.  Matt is a sophomore from Austin, Texas and has been a two-year standout for the baseball team.  As a freshman, Matt was named All-Conference and All-state as an infielder (shortstop and 3rd baseman).  He batted .398 (47 for 118) with 10 doubles, 29 runs, and 31 RBI.  In his sophomore year, he currently is hitting .365 and leads the team with 54 hits (54 for 148), runs (41) and 13 doubles.  The 6’0’, 205 lb. first baseman bats clean-up for the Blue Devils and hopes to lead the team to their third world series appearance in the past four years.
