Season Overview
The Riverland Community College men's golf team will be much improved over last season's squad and Coach David Lillemon is very optimistic with his incoming team. " We have two outstanding workers in second year players Darrick Braaten and Isaac Van Proosdy. Six freshman round out with team, including three freshmen who had excellent high school careers. Nick Janssen (Waseca), David White (Blooming Prairie), and Adam Ruhter (Hayfield) all will compete for top honors with Bratten during the regular season. Ryan Wiechmann (Austin), Trevor King (Owatonna), Jesse Manuel (Albert Lea), Tim Bissen (Austin), Aric Bauman (Kiester), and Jason O'Donnell (Mason City) will all add depth to a potentially very good golf team. Coach Lillemon added, " this team is very young but has a load of talent". " It will be fun to see as the season progresses how they handle the college pressure of participating against some of the best golfers in a five state region". " I think we have a chance to finish in the top five in the state and region when it is all said and done" added Lillemon. The season begins with a dual meet on August 27th against Rochester C & TC and will conclude on Oct. 5-6, 2008 at the State and Region tournament hosted by Central Lakes. Riverland Community College has sent individual golfers to the NJCAA national tournament in 8 of the past 11 years. The Blue Devils hope to add to that total this fall. |
