Hall of Fame2005 Inductee Terry DilleyMen's and Women's Tennis Coach (1976-93) Terry Dilley began working at Austin Community College in 1966 and was on the staff for 37 years teaching Sociology and Philosophy. Dilley started his tennis coaching with David Dickinson in 1977 and they had a tremendous record together as co-coaches. On the women's side, he had one state championship (two more ACC could have won but Nationals was a conflict), and four Region XIII titles. The women's dual record was 42-28(60%), but over a 4-year period from 1986-89 the ladies were an impressive 35-1. On the men?s side, Dilley?s teams won state championships in 1984 and 1991, with runner-up finishes in 1987 and 1992. The men won two Region XIII titles (1991 and 1993) and finished second twice (1977 and 1984). In 1993 the men excelled to a 9-0 dual record. The state tournament was rained out that year but his team went on to win the Region XIII title. Overall the men's dual record was 63-71 over Dilley's reign as co-coach with Dickinson. From 1884-86, the emphasis was on co-ed tennis and the ACC men and women's teams finished first in 1984 and 1986. Terry graduated from high school in Pierre, South Dakota and received his college degree in teaching from South Dakota State University in 1964. He went on and earned his Master's degree (MA) at St. Johns University in Sante Fe, California in 1972. Terry was married to Ann for 37 years before her death and he has three children: Sean, Erin, and Shiela. He also has three grandchildren; Gavin, Ian, and Megan. |
