Hall of Fame2005 Inductee Don BallBasketball and Football (1971-73) Dan Ball, a 1971 graduate of Austin High School, was a two sport letter-winner in football and basketball while at AHS. His junior year he led his football team to the conference and state championships. Dan also was named to the All Big 9 and All- State football team his senior season. As a senior in basketball he helped lead his squad to the Big 9 championship. He continued his playing career at Austin Community College in football and basketball. In football was a defensive back and offensive end and was termed by Coach Earl Perkins "as one of best football players ever to play for me in my 14 years of coaching". Dan was co-captain his sophomore year. In basketball led his squad to a co-championship in the Southern Division his sophomore year, earning All-Conference, All-State and 3rd team All-Region XIII honors. He scored 440 points (currently 5th all time leader in a season) and averaged 7.6 rebounds per game in his second season. Dan continued his college and football career while attending Mankato State University for one year. He coached the Austin Community College women's softball team for two seasons in 1978-79 and 1979-80. His second season the lady BlueDevils were Conference champions, State Champions, Region XIII Champions and finished 4th in the national championships in St. Louis, Missouri. He also was a football assistant to head coach Earl Perkins for two seasons. Ball currently is and has been the boy's varsity basketball assistant for 18 years at Austin High School. He and his wife Debra have three children; Christopher, Tony and Jennifer and are his family also includes his mother Ruth |
