Hall of Fame2003 Inductee Richard AndersonMen's Basketball (1950-53) Richard attended Austin Junior College from fall 1950 to the spring of 1953. In those days, the college was located on the third floor of Austin High School. Student athletes were allowed to participate three years in athletics. He was an All-Conference selection in each of his three years, averaging between 15-25 points per game. Anderson's teams were conference champions all three years and scored more than 100 points on four separate occasions. Anderson was coached by Dick Jewitt his freshman year and Hal Cuff his sophomore and junior years. His most memorable game was played in Mankato in 1952. After winning the contest, they left for home with Coach Cuff. At Highway 16 they ran into snow drifts four- and five-feet high and were stranded until 11 the following morning. Richard is a retired Mower County Assessor where he worked for 40 years. He has been married to Vae for 50 years. They have four children; Lori, Lee, Lon, and Mark. A fifth member, very important to the family, is Jim King. |
