The Riverland Community College softball team split at Fergus Falls Saturday. The Blue Devils’ late rally fell short in game one 10-9, while Riverland picked up game two 16-6 in five innings.
“It was nice to come back and get a split after kind of a heartbreaking loss,” said Riverland coach Dave Lillemon. “I thought we responded really well and actually played very good the second game.”
In game one, Thenedra Corey went four for four for Riverland in what would be an eight for eight performance for the day for the freshman. Chelsey Swanson, Justine Sanvick and Danielle Lynch each added two hits for the Blue Devils, who trailed 8-4 in the seventh.
In game two, Corey went four for four with one double and three singles, while Sanvick and Carmen Smith added three hits each.
Anna Breault recorded the win and moved to 7-4 on the season.
With the split, Riverland is now 15-12 overall, 9-9 in the MCAC South, and qualified for the state tournament for the third consecutive season.
After finishing off regular season play at home against Rochester Tuesday, Riverland opens state play at St. Cloud Friday.
