Coach Koenigs

Coach Scott Koenigs has been hired as Associate Scout for the Kansas City Royals. Coach Koenigs will begin his first year working for the Major League Baseball Organization this season. Coach K is looking forward to his association with the professional organization and is hoping to help the team any way he can. "I appreciate the opportunity that the Royals have given me and look forward to getting involved in professional baseball. Kansas City is a great organization with a strong baseball tradition and I am thrilled to be associated with the team. I believe that my association with the Royals will also help make our Baseball Program here at Riverland Community College even stronger and hope it leads to a National Tournament appearance."

Scott Koenigs begins his 7th year as Head Coach of the Riverland Blue Devils.  Koenigs led the Devils to a 19-11 record in 2008.  The Devils, under Koenigs, have improved each season since his arrival.  The 2008 Devils had an outstanding team batting average of .345; this also has increased each year under the mentoring of Koenigs.  The Riverland Baseball Program has become a very competitive program year-in and year-out.  The Riverland Campus has become a yearly recruiting stop for D.I, D.II, NAIA, and D.III 4-Year baseball programs looking for immediate help.

Prior to arriving at Riverland, Koenigs was Head Baseball Coach at GMLO in Minnesota, leading them to a conference title in his first season there.  After 2 years at GMLO, Coach Koenigs was hired as a Graduate Assistant Coach at The University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.  Koenigs spent his two years with th`e Jayhawks coaching the outfielders and assisting with the hitters.  Koenigs worked for former major leaguer Bobby Randall at KU.  At KU, Koenigs was involved in recruiting, evaluating, day-to-day practices, and game-day events.

Koenigs played collegiately at Fergus Falls Community College and Winona State University.  He received his Social Studies and Coaching Undergraduate Degree from Winona State University.  Coach Koenigs received his Masters Degree in Sport Administration from the University of Kansas.

Pitching Coach - Dan Swift

Coach Swift

Dan Swift begins his 3rd year as an Assistant Coach for the Blue Devils.  Dan takes over the Pitching Coach duties for the 2008-09 season.  Swift, a native of Mayville, North Dakota, started his coaching career at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, MN (2002-2003).  As an assistant coach his primary responsibility was as a hitting instructor.  Following a two year hiatus from baseball, Swift was hired as an assistant coach at Bismark State College in Bismark, North Dakota.
Swift is a graduate of Mayville State University where he was a five-time all-conference player (one season as both pitcher and outfielder), two-time Regional Player-of-the-Year and 1st Team All-American.  After his playing career at Mayville State, Swift played two seasons in the Frontier League before a back injury cut short his professional career.   Swift is also the Head Basketball Coach at Riverland Community College.

Assistant Coach - Andy Swank  
Coach Swank
Andy Swank begins his 1st year as the Blue Devils Assistant Hitting Coach and will also be responsible for the Devils outfield. Swank, a native of Austin, Minnesota, graduated from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. While at Briar Cliff University, Swank was a 4-year starter for the Chargers. Swank earned 1st team All-Conference as a freshman and 1st Team All-Conference as a senior. As a freshman, Swank helped Briar Cliff to its first appearance in the NAIA World Series. “Andy is an excellent addition to our staff. Andy was a 4-year starter at Briar Cliff and his many accomplishments at the NAIA University have earned the players respect. Andy knows the game, he loves the game and I am very happy to have Andy joining our coaching staff.” - Scott Koenigs
