The Riverland Community College baseball team swept Rochester in Austin Saturday, 6-2, 7-2.
The Blue Devils are now ranked 10th in the nation.
“It’s a great sweep over Rochester,” said Riverland coach Scott Koenigs. “They always play tough.”
In game one, Brandon Huhn pitched seven innings, striking out seven on the mound and adding a home run at the plate.
Also on offense, eight of the nine Blue Devil starters recorded hits, including Huhn, Chris Lindemann, Brian Voigt, Derek Emanuel, Shane Lange, Andy Behnke, Shawn Pape and Zach Vlietstra.
“Great job pitching from Brandon Huhn,” Koenigs said. “And I was pretty happy with the way we hit the bat.”
In game two, Brady Banse secured the win for the Blue Devils on the mound, while Kyle Starkey and Lang each had two hits.
Huhn also recorded his second home run for the day.
He is now Riverland’s all-time career home run leader with 12.
“It was a good day all around,” said Koenigs, whose team improves to 30-7.
Sunday’s doubleheader was postponed because of rain.
