NORTHFIELD -- The Riverland Blue Devils baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Carleton College junior varsity on Monday.

With the wind blowing out, the Blue Devils bashed the ball all over the field. Riverland collected a total of 27 hits on the day in winning by scores of 14-5 and 14-4.

Shane Lange was the winning pitcher in the first game for the Blue Devils. Alex Buckentine was the starter and posted the pitching win in the late game.

Riverland scored eight runs with two outs in the top of the first inning to turn the opener into a rout right off the bat.

"The first two guys recorded outs, then the next nine batters got on base," Riverland coach Scott Koenigs said. "Kody Retterath hit a bases loaded double to get things rolling in the first inning. Kody delivered big hit as he one-hopped the fence."

In the initial uprising, the Blue Devils batted around and put the game away. Chris Lindemann made use of his second at-bat in the inning to hit a two-run homer. Lange was staked to a big lead and got the mound win.

The late game was a bit closer, until the Blue Devils broke it open with seven runs in the top of the fourth. Zach Vlietstra had a pair of hits and a pair of stolen bases in the win. He is now 19-for-19 in stolen base attempts on the season.

Lindemann hit another home run in the late game. Kyle Starkey also homered and Voigt added a pair of hits in the offensive show for the Blue Devils.

Riverland (14-5) plays host to Hibbing on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader at Seltz Field.
