Women's BasketballThe 2007-08 season was a remarkable one for the Blue Devils with the best season in school history and many individual and team accomplishments. This season the lady devils want more of the same. With a month of practice under their belt, the Blue Devils are beginning to gel and show some promise, as they look to make a run for the conference title this season. With 3 sophomore returners, a transfer, and 5 new freshmen, it seems the key will be perimeter depth. Returning from last year is center Brooke Monson, who shot over 50% from the field averaging 20 points per game and 10 rebounds. By the end of the season last year Brooke had racked up 560 points which was the most points ever scored in a single season at Riverland Community College. Anna Hebrink is also back to assist and light it up from behind the arch. She finished last season with 79 (3’s), the most in a single season, along with 464 points and 6.6 assists per game. Both Brooke and Anna received All-conference, All-state, NJCAA player of the week awards and All- tournament. Brooke was also All- region. Lizzie Gunter is in her second season and brings a lot of game minutes into her sophomore year. She is aggressive, rebounds well and can play both inside and out. Lizzie averaged 4 points and 4 boards last season and will need to bring consistency with her game this season. Justine Sanvick is a transfer and is a very solid player. Justine is extremely consistent and has great court awareness. Coach Hebrink has watched her play for several years and is impressed with her poise on the court. Rounding out the roster is 5 freshman, all with speed and defensive savvy. AunDreah Aune is from Minneapolis Roseveldt. She has played an uptempo aggressive style of ball for years and will be able to attack the basket off the dribble as well as hit behind the arch. Mandy May,Gretchen Hebrink, and Tricia Boese all bring experience with them at the point guard spot, intense defense, and the ability to find the open player. Krissy Schemmel is also a guard but can play a small forward as she has the ability to play the perimeter but also score down low. With the season ready to open so to are the Lady Devils ready to prove they can play with the best.
