Season Summary

Week 8 (October 12, 2009)
Way to go Kate Krogh MCAC Hitter of the Week with 2.5 kills per game and 6.4digs per game.  Kate had a great offensive and defensive week. Kate is currently third in the Southern Division for digs with 284 digs.  The team only had one match this week against Western Wisconsin.  Riverland won in four games.  With the conclusion of conference play, we are officially tied for third in the Southern Division with Fergus Falls. After a coin flip, Riverland will take the fourth seed in the MCAC State Tournament opening with Hibbing at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 24, 2009.  Riverland Volleyball has qualified ten times in sixteen years for state! Hope to see you in Thief Riverfalls, MN, this weekend.

Week 7 (October 5, 2009)
Congratulations to Stephanie Neumann MCAC Hitter of the Week for her fantastic play last week! Stephanie had 38 kills in two matches.  Steph is currently third in the Southern Division for kills with 123.  Riverland volleyball played three matches beginning with an exciting four games with Rochester.  Both teams played well and it came down to many errors at the net for us giving Rochester the match.  We then hosted MN West and won in three games.  Saturday we traveled to Anoka Ramsey and won in three games.  These two wins secured our place in the MCAC State Tournament!  Good job girls!  As we sit third in our division we wait for the conclusion of conference play.

Week Six (September 28, 2009)
Friday night the Devils had a big win against St. Cloud Technical College.  St. Cloud was relentless when it came to digging our attacks but we were persistant and won the match in four games.  Saturday’s match against Fergus Falls had a different outcome for us.  We lost in four close games.  Now we are tied for third place in the conference.  Weekly highlights include Stephanie Neumann with an amazing 38 kills, Kate Krogh with 18 kills, 98% serving and 43 digs.  Katie Williams had 42 digs and was 100% at the service line.  Krissy Schemmel had 65 set assists and 23 digs.  Abbie Curry was a force at the net with 6 blocks on the week.   Join us next week as we work to secure a tenth trip to the MCAC State Tournament.

Week Five(September 21, 2009)
Congratulations to Katie Williams MCAC Libero of the Week for her outstanding play last week!  Riverland Volleyball beat Anoka Ramsey in 5 games with a score of 15-11 in the fifth game on September 23, 2009.  Team highlights were Stephanie Neumann with 19 kills, Krissy Schemmel with 27 set assists.  Kate Krogh and Katie Williams both had 21 digs.  Saturday we traveled to Mason City to play Division II NIACC.  They were big attackers and very strong defensively.  We lost in three games.

Week Four (September 14, 2009)
Riverland hosted Rochester Community and Technical College last Wednesday.  We lost in three.  Knowing we could have played better, set the stage for our three game win over MN West.  After our match in Worthington we traveled to Willmar and stayed over night to awake fresh for our third conference match of the week .  We lost to Ridgewater in three.  We were competitive but in the end made a few critical errors to close out the match.  The scores were 18-25, 19-25 and 22-25.  Although we lost, the fast pace was good preparation for our upcoming conference games.  Katie Williams did a great job as libero tallying 43 digs for the week.  We host Anoka Ramsey on Wednesday.  Riverland is now 3-3 in the Southern Division.

Week Three (September 7, 2009)
Wow!  First of all, let me congratulate sophomore setter Krissy Schemmel for being chosen as the MCAC Setter of the Week last week!  Congratulations Krissy.

The team has had a very busy week, playing seven matches!  Riverland started out strong with a conference win against St. Cloud Technical College in four games.  Friday, we beat Fergus Falls in an exciting five game match winning 15-10 in the fifth game.  Saturday we left early for an all day tournament, playing 5 matches...long day.  We lost to Fergus Falls as 9:00 AM.  We played flat and were not communicating well.  Communication is typically our problem if we have one and that was not the only match we lost for that reason.  We went on to beat Western Wisconsin, lost to MATC, beat MN West in the fourth match of the day.  Finally, we defeated Rochester the first game of three and lost the next two ending up with 2 wins and 3 losses.  Riverland had a full week of volleyball, we did a lot of winning, we are all healthy, everybody played and we had fun!  Our statistical leaders for the week are Krissy Schemmel with 112 assists also tallying  71 digs.  Cede Miklya had a team high of 74 digs.  Way to go Cede! Stephanie Neumann led the team with 39 attack kills, she also had 7 blocks, and 3 ace serves.  Kate Krogh had 68 digs, and 25 kills.  Kelsey Brink had 31 kills, 5 blocks, 4 service aces, 39 digs and 14 set assists.  Kelsey had a very nice all around week of play.  Danyel Hythecker had the team high blocks with 13.  Good job Blue Devils!  We host Rochester on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 PM.  Tailgate party starts at 6:00 with free food and fun.  Hope to see you there.

Week Two  (August 31, 2009)
The Riverland Volleyball Team began the week with a win against Western Wisconsin.  It was as exciting five game match that ended in a score of 15-13!  On Friday, Ridgewater College came to play in our home conference opener.  After the first game, the Devils proved to be tough opponents for the Warriors taking game two.  Ridgewater ended up winning in four games.  I look forward to our next meeting.  It was nice to have Krissy Schemmel back in the line up.  She manages the floor with confidence and smart choices.  Our statistical leaders for the week were Kelsey Brink with 18 kills, Kate Krogh with 16 attack kills.  Abbie Curry had 7 ace blocks, Danyel Hythecker had 6, Katie Williams led with 4 ace serves.  Krissy Schemmel had 18 set assists setting 91 balls, Kristin had 29 assists putting up 124 sets.  Cede Miklya led digs for the week with 26, Kate Krogh had 25.  We are home against St. Cloud Tech on Wednesday.

Week One    (August 24, 2009)
The Fergus Falls Tournament proved to be a learning experience for the young Blue Devils.  Going zero and four on the day, we had our bright spots in our play and our down moments.  In the first game of our second match we lost 20-25.  During the second game we were behind 18-5 but played great defense and came back to lose 21-25 to the eventual tournament champions.  Bad teams can’t come back on good teams.  Kelsey Brink led the team with 21 kills, 4 service aces and 27 digs.  Kristin Vesel had 40 set assists for the day.  Wednesday we travel Wisconsin and finish the week at home with Ridgewater.  Krissy Schemmel is hoping to be back from her injury this week.  We look forward to her return.
