Shadow Drawing

Our first exhibition of the season is called Shadow Drawing. The works in the show represent the combined scientific and artistic thinking of the late Dr. Andre Bruwer. Utilizing unusual X-ray photographs of a variety of plant life, they are both technically interesting and elegant, expressively tranquil works of art.

Trained as a radiologist, Bruwer also had a strong interest in naturalism and the study of plants. Using a compact, lead- lined X-ray machine shaped something like a dishwasher, his early experiments led to prints which reveal the life form's inner beauty and structure. Statements about the subject plants by Dr. Bruwer hang next to many of the works.

Dr. Bruwer's daughter, Jennifer La Forgia, is carrying forward her father's legacy, and will be on campus for a public talk beginning at 9:30 am and reception following Tuesday, September 14.

The exhibit will be open: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
