The Practical Nursing Program at Riverland Community College is approved by the
Minnesota Board of Nursing. Graduates of the Practical Nursing Program will integrate general education, including science coursework, with the discipline of nursing coursework (PNUR) as the basis for nursing practice and ongoing life-long learning.
The Practical Nursing Program will prepare the student with the knowledge, skills, and values of a practical nurse (PN) for entry-level practice. The student will then be eligible to take the licensing examination for the licensed practical nurse (NCLEX-PN). The student is eligible to enter practice when licensed and/or may apply to the MANE A.S. Degree/BSN program with advanced standing in following years.
All Pre-Nursing Students applying to either Nursing (RN) or the Nursing (LPN) program at Riverland Community College will need to take the ATI TEAS (6th edition) nursing entrance exam.
Meeting qualifications for the practical nursing program does not ensure admission to the program. Based on the number of applicants and the number of class seats available, the Nursing Program Admission Committee will review applications following the deadline. All applicants will receive a letter of notification of their application status.
General education courses may be taken prior to acceptance into the nursing program; however, if the student has not completed them at that time, they must be taken in specific semesters during the one year program.
PLEASE NOTE: Students must have been admitted to the nursing program before they can register for any PNUR course.
Students accepted and enrolled in an Allied Health Program must complete a Department of Human Services (DHS) background study. The background study will be initiated through the Allied Health Department at the college. Students will receive further details including the DHS privacy practices notice prior to the study being initiated.
The Riverland College Practical Nursing Program is approved through the Minnesota Board of Nursing and is in Candidacy for accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) . ACEN contact Information:
