How much does an average course cost, along with books and materials?
Our college credit-based courses costs are the same as those of the traditional part of the college. Oftentimes, there may be additional fees for on-site delivery, books or materials. All costs are clearly presented before any training begins. Financial aid is available for eligible students.
What kind of a time commitment is required for classes or a degree program?
A typical one-credit course is 16 hours in length... often spread out over four or five class sessions. Most classes meet one evening per week or take place in two daylong sessions.
Can I get credit for work experience?
Work experience is valued in our training... 'testing-out' of certain courses may be an option for some, with prior approval from appropriate college personnel.
Will you accept previously earned college credits? Will Riverland's credits transfer to other institutions?
Yes, Riverland accepts credits earned at other institutions. Depending on the length of time that has elapsed, and if the former institution is accredited, official transcripts will be reviewed for any possible transfer credits. Additionally, Riverland's credit-based coursework transfers to many other institutions as well. It is important to remember that only the 'receiving' institution can make that determination. It is suggested that students be proactive in communicating with any institution that may be attended after Riverland Community College.
Computer Technology
I want to work on a company's network. Where do I start?
There are several different areas of technology that you can work in which relate to computer networking. One of the first questions we ask is; what do you want to do every day when you go to work? That will give the counseling staff at Riverland the information they need to help you plan your career path to the future.
Are there jobs in this region?
Riverland Community College has a placement department that tracks those statistics. They will be happy to provide you with that information. We also find that many of our graduates keep in touch with the college once they have graduated.
Do I have to commit to 2 years of school?
No, many of our technology programs are scheduled to allow you to begin with a certificate and build into a diploma or AAS degree at your own pace.
Do I have to go fulltime?
Anyone can choose to take as many credits as they want depending on their own schedules.
Can I go days or nights?
Many of our courses are offered both in the daytime and in the evenings. We even offer entire programs in the evening, which allows our students to work days and pursue a degree in the evening.
