How did the Dakota and settlers differ in ideologies, weaponry and tactics? Was it possible for the two sides to live amicably together in the Minnesota River Valley? What events lead to the outbreak of hostilities in the summer of 1862? What role did the Dakota War play in the larger scope of the Indian Wars in the 1800's?
