Hall of Fame2005 Inductee Mary KuitersBasketball and Tennis (1997 - 99) Mary Kuiters, a 1997 graduate from Albert Lea High School, participated in three sports and was an 8 sport letter winner in tennis, basketball, and softball. Mary attended Riverland Community College from 1997-99 and played basketball and tennis. Kuiters scored 465 points her freshman year (21.1 ppg), which ranks 5th all time and as a sophomore set the single season scoring record with 528 points while averaging 24.0 points per game. She led the nation in scoring her second season while becoming the most prolific score in the college?s history. She also set the single game scoring record (47 points ) and most free throws made in a contest(15). During her two years she was named Minnesota Community College Conference Player of Week on four separate occasions. Mary was All-Conference, All-State and All-Region XIII as a freshman and sophomore. She received 2nd Team All-American honors her sophomore year. On the tennis court Mary also displayed outstanding talents. She participated two seasons, helping her team win the MCCC State Championship her freshman year, the Region XIII championships (1998 and 1999), and place 3rd both years at the NJCAA national championships. As a sophomore she teamed up with Angie Bushaw to take second place in the doubles competition in the national event to earn 2nd team All- American honors. Mary continued her education career at St. Catherine and and Stout University. She currently is taking classes through Winona State University while living in Rochester to earn a Physcology degree. She is employed with the Assertive Community Treatment Center through Olmstad County. Mary's parents are Keith and Nancy she has three siblings; Laurel, Jay and Lee. |
