2005 Inductee Karol Hansen

Volleyball, Basketball, Softball (1978-80)

Karol Hansen graduated from Glenville-Emmons High School in 1978 after an unbelievable high school career of being a 3 sport twelve time letter-winner in volleyball, basketball, and track. She was All-Conference her junior and senior year in volleyball and while earning the same honors in basketball she led her team to Gopher Conference championship in 1975-76.

Hansen continued her three sport playing career at Austin Community College and in the fall participated in volleyball leading her squad to back to back state appearances under coach Vel Moen. While playing the point or off guard in basketball, Karol was part of a unit that went 19-4 (3rd in State) her freshman year and 17-4 (2nd in State) her sophomore year. She continued her great leadership on the softball diamond and in her sophomore year Karol drove in the winning run (10th inning) to guide the lady BlueDevils to a MCCC State Championship. That same team would win the Region XIII Championship and place 4th in the National tournament in St. Loius, Missouri.

After graduating from ACC, Karol earned a double major in Health Education and Physical Education and a coaching minor from St. Cloud University. She taught and coached in Hinkley, Minnesota for 4 years before moving back close to home to teach in Albert Lea. Hansen was hired full time in 1988-89 and for a 13 year span coached 3 sports per season. She was named "Teacher of the Year in the Albert Lea School District in the year 2000. She currently is the head basketball coach and has held that position for 10 years.

Karol is from a family of 8 and her two biggest role models are her parents, Aileen(who passed away recently) and Elmer (passed away in 1992 after 42 years of marriage). She also credits her siblings as her "biggest fans and best friends".
