2003 Inductee Linda Tapp

Women's Volleyball, Basketball, Softball (1979-81)

Linda Tapp graduated from Southland High School as a nine-sport, letter-winner in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was named to the WCCO Radio Prep Parade All-State Girls Basketball Team and Coaches All-State team her senior year and was a top 10 candidate finalist for "Miss Basketball" in Minnesota.

Linda attended Austin Community College from 1979-81 and participated in three sports both years. Vel Moen coached her in volleyball. As a two-year starter, they went 18-7-1 and third in the state her freshman year. Tapp was captain her sophomore year in which they went 13-14.

Tapp's basketball career was also coached by Vel Moen. As a freshman, she averaged 13.1 points per game and led her team to a 19-3 record and second place in the state. She received All-Conference, All-State, and Second Team All-Region honors her sophomore year and led her team to a 14-6 mark and state appearance. Linda also served as an assistant to Moen in 1984.

In softball Tapp played for coach Dan Ball her freshman year and Sue Nelson her second season. During her rookie season the Lady Blue Devils qualified for the NJCAA national softball championships played in St. Louis, Missouri and finished fourth as a team. She batted .321 and they finished as Conference champions, State champions, and Region XIII champions in 1980. Her sophomore year she was named, again, to the All-Region team and led her team to a third-place finish in the state tournament.

After graduating from ACC, Tapp completed her education at River Falls, Wisconsin where she played two years of basketball and coached as an assistant for one year. Tapp currently resides in Austin and works at Shopko as a Module Leader.
